More Hats!

More hats! I'm still working on my Orange You Glad pattern, or, as I've decided to call it instead, Diminuendo. Both of these hats came out very well, with two different takes on the crown. Now I just have to decide which is more fitting!

BLACKSTONE ORANGE YOU GLAD/DIMINUENDO HAT

With this incarnation, I used the same rib and cast on pattern as the orange Orange You Glad. I realized after I had made it, though, that the ribbing didn't line up with the cables in any sort of fashion.

On this one the body was 10 stitches bigger than the hat band, and the decreases features two right hand facing cables diminishing to the crown. Overall, good progress.

MUSHROOM CAP DIMINUENDO

Lots of pictures for this one. I think this one comes the closest to my original intention that I will be able to get. I worked out the increases for the hat band so that there is a 14 stitch difference between the hat band and the hat body. It makes it just a tad bit snugger and, hopefully, a tad bit warmer. I also arranged the hat band rib so that it increased right into the cables. I didn't get the increases perfect on this one, but with the next one the cables will hopefully literally and seamlessly emerge from the ribbing pattern. It works, though I'm not sure how well I like it. I may like the random patterning better, but it's too late for me to consciously go back to a randomized design. Boo.

I got the braid, as close as I shall get it I think, in the decreases. In the end, it doesn't look much different from the simple cable decrease, but it's satisfying. It's interesting, I hope, to see the progression of the pattern.

I am planning to make it again, but have some other hat patterns to look at while I let this one breath, and find someone to take a look at it and give me their opinion.
