Orange You Glad Hat

First, Happy Thanksgiving! And now...

Knock knock.

Who's there?

Orange.

Orange who?

Orange you glad you have a hat?

Of course you are!

So. I've been hammering away at a pattern, inspired by the cable in his black cabled hat. I loved the cable used in this pattern, and wanted to saturate a hat with it.

I wanted to create a pattern that featured the braid cable next to each other over and over again, and continued in the braid pattern as it diminished at the crown.

A HAT - WITH SISTERLY LOVE

My success has been limited. I used the above pattern as a guide line as I cast on for attempt number one. I cast on with somewhere around 40 stitches on #11 needles. I think the band of the hat was intended to be a K1 P1 K2 P1 rib, which is roughly 1.5 inches long. Increases were made so that the body of the hat worked with 49 stitches.

I soon realized that this hat would be child sized, instead of adult male. Because of this, I did two pattern repeats of the cable, and then tried my hand at decreases. On this hat I placed all of the decreases on the left side of each cable. The result was pretty, but sheared off half of the cable pattern instead of continuing it. Completed object? Still Good.

THE ORIGINAL ORANGE YOU GLAD

Take two was closer to what I had hoped. This one cast on with 50 stiches, maintained the same rib as take one for 3 inches. and repeated the cable three times to make a hat that, to the recipients specifications, had a fold up hat band. The decreases were dispersed throughout the braid, every two rows, but left a hole in the middle of the braid during one of the decreases. Boo! Still, not bad at all.
