Below, pictured left to right, the before, the after, and the leftovers.
After weaving in the ends I threw everything except the gray cowl in the washing machine, to get them nice and clean, though I did only use cold rinse and wash on the gentle cycle, and then lay them flat to drive. They survived beauteously!
My say on weaving in ends: I am of the mind, because I was taught so, that ends should be woven through strands of yarn, not just through and under stitches. This is so that, with natural fibers, there's more for the ends to hold on to, and gently felt and attach to during washing. It is a worry that this will weaken the strands woven through, but I've never had a problem with it. It's what works for me, and until I hear a convincing argument against, it is how I will practice my knitting.
